Sometimes we wake up feeling a little sluggish, maybe bloated from that pizza last night or for no apparent reason. Before having coffee and breakfast it’s a good idea to try to have some sort of elixir to set your body up well for the day. If you’re sensitive to some foods and wake up the next morning now feeling so great, maybe sick and bloated, these can help!
1.Hot Lemon Water
Anywhere from half a lemon to a lemon wedge squeezed into hot water is the perfect first thing in the morning. It helps to gently ‘wake up’ your gut. The hot water combined with lemon helps to flush out the digestive system and rehydrate the body after a nights sleep. The lemon also helps to get rid of toxins, aiding clear skin.
2.Apple Cider Vinegar Shot
1 tablespoon diluted with a glass of water or 1 teaspoon diluted with a small glass of water is another detox elixir for first thing in the morning. You need to make sure you have apple cider vinegar that is with “the mother”, a type of good bacteria. The fermentation of the vinegar can help to increase good bacteria in the gut and study has shown apple cider vinegar to help stabilize blood sugar (this is not very prominent though). When I take this consistently I notice a big reduction in bloating throughout the day.
3.Coffee with Coconut Oil
Yes, coffee! Finally. Adding 1 small teaspoon of coconut oil to your morning coffee will provide your body with plenty of lauric acids to help your body fight off harmful bacteria and keep your gut happy. The source of MCTs (medium chain triglycerides) helps you to stay fuller for longer too and avoid that mid-afternoon slump. The MCT paired with a coffee can help to slow the absorption of caffeine in your body so you won’t get the jitters. I find coconut oil in my coffee makes my stomach feel a lot happier as well as making the coffee creamy.
