Getting lean, healthy and happy is a 360 approach to your health and fitness lifestyle – working out with an awful diet won’t give you incredible results. Nor will sweaty, intense workouts whilst your life is causing sky-high stress levels. We have to look at the whole package, with one of the main factors being your metabolism. By boosting your metabolism, you are boosting your body’s fat-burning potential; here are some ways to go about it.
1. Cardio, it keeps your metabolism smooth. Regular cardio helps to burn calories, get your heart rate up and keep your body running smoothly. Although it may not be your favorite, it should not be overlooked for getting lean.
2. Never skip a meal, ever. Skipping breakfast, or regular meals can send your body into a state of not knowing when it will eat again, and in the long run, this can be a cause of holding onto more fat. Regular, well-balanced meals, 3 times a day, will help to keep your metabolism regular and your body able to burn fat.
3. Strength Train. Building muscle mass increases your resting metabolic rate (the rate at which food is converted into energy, the calories you burn). Add some strength training sessions to your workout schedule for results.
4. De-stress. Cortisol, the stress hormone, can help raise insulin levels making you crave sugary foods and often eat more. Taking time to relax and unwind will help you to reduce stress.
